Ingrid Eckler Citizenship Award

Graduating high school seniors are invited to apply for the Ingrid Eckler Citizenship Award offered by the League of Woen Voters of Palm Beach County. This award is in honor of Ingrid Eckler, a founding LWV member and strong advocate of citizen education, community service and community participation.

Applicants must be high school seniors and US citizens enrolled in a Palm Beach County Public High School. ALL students qualify who demonstrate an interest in public affairs and who actively participate in school and community service. The award winner will be determined by the content of the application and through an interview by the Award Committee.

This year, the Eckler Citizenship Award, based on commuity service and a written essay, will be granted to two high school seniors. The question posed to the students this year was, "At 18 years of age, as a United States citizen, you are eligible to vote. In your opinion is voting a right (optional) or a responsibility (obligatory)? The winners will receive a check for $1500, which will be awarded at a luncheon on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11:30 AM at Benevenuto Restaurant, 1730 N. Federal Highway, Boynton Beach.

The Eckler Committee received 43 applications.
