51 new members and prospects attended Orientation on April 1 at Palm Beach State College to learn about the programs and advocacy opportunities that abound in League. The attendees went away prepared to become involved and engaged in issues and action avenues. Enthusiasm and passion for good government were palpable in the air as all learned together.

ART ACTS OUT: Women in Today’s Art World

Sunday, March 19, Noon to 4 PM.

This Community Day of Action will promote gender equality and is being held in celebration of the sixth year of the Norton’s RAW (Recognition of Art by Women) exhibition series.

The day begins with a Mini Makers Fair led by South Florida art organizations: ATB Fine Artists & Designers (West Palm Beach), Girls’ Club (Fort Lauderdale), IS Projects (Fort Lauderdale), and Turn-Based Press (Miami). We will design our personal calls to action with the help of these innovative artists! Noon-2 PM.

On February 21, members of the League, NCJW, ACLU, and Palm Beach County citizens gathered at Compass Community Center to experience what it means to be a judge, to deliberate on a religious freedom case, and to learn why it is so important to have good judges on the federal bench.

Deb Chandler explained the structure of Federal Courts and the facts of a case which centered on religious freedom. Attendees then broke into small groups, or “judicial benches,” to consider the case. After the findings of each “bench” was presented, Deb revealed the actual decisions of both the District and the Appeal courts. (Yes, the District Court’s decision was overturned!)
