Sunshine State Voters Reject Anti-Solar Amendment 1

Multi-partisan grassroots coalition successfully leads a solar uprising to defeat $26 million utility-backed deceptive ballot measure

Tampa, Fla. – Today Florida voters rejected Amendment 1 – the utility-backed proposal that sought to limit the growth of customer-owned solar power in the Sunshine State.

In a true David and Goliath battle, a diverse grassroots coalition of more than 200 organizations, solar companies, elected officials, and thousands of concerned citizens successfully rallied nearly 50 percent of the state to vote against the deceptive utility-backed amendment. WANT MORE SOLAR IN THE SUNSHINE STATE?
VOTE NO ON AMENDMENT 1
Floridians should VOTE NO on Amendment 1 for three reasons:vote-no-on-1-3-boxes-snip

Meredith Barnard presentation on fracking in Florida

meredith-barnardMeredith Barnard gave an enlightening presentation October 27th to the Environmental Issues Group of LWVPBC. She discussed the fracking going on in our back yards here in south Florida.

Her background in Marine Science and Environmental Affairs has led her to the Conservancy of SW Florida. This environmental group is one of five that filed the lawsuit against the National Park Service expressing the need for comprehensive data required before, not after, issuing a permit to Burnett Oil Co to begin seismic testing in Big Cypress National Preserve. This land sits on the Biscayne Aquifer which provides clean water for over 7 million people in SW Florida.

Meredith will keep us informed with all the complexities involved in the lawsuit and the environmental natural resource policy issues. With

Confronting Gun Violence in America examines the most burning questions in the current gun violence debate, such as:
 Are mass shootings increasing and are they becoming more lethal?
 Does gun ownership increase police shootings of citizens or shootings of officers?
 Do guns in the
