Faith Maniti – New LWV Intern

Faith ManitiFor anyone losing faith in the humanitarian values and character of today’s youth, take heart – and meet Faith Maniti, our recent LWV intern who is working with Christine Campbell Gabor on the Civics Education  Committee. And for anyone out there (though not likely in our LWV community) who questions the value of having a pro-active immigrant population  — again – here is  new member Faith who embodies everything we could want in our melding culture of young people.

Born in Manilla in the Philippines, Faith moved with her family to Florida when she was 6 years old and in August she will begin her senior year at Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach where they live.

LWVPBC was a proud sponsor of the Palm Beach County School District’s Second Annual Government Bee, held at Santaluces High School on April 16th.

Seven PBC high schools participated in this year’s Bee, which was originated by the Masonic High Twelve Club of Lake Worth No. 316. The seven schools (Boynton Beach High School, Lake Worth Community High School, Royal Palm Beach High School, Santaluces Community High School, Seminole Ridge Community High School, Spanish River High School, and Suncoast High School) mounted ten teams, double the number of teams that competed in the first annual competition held last year.

Florida Supreme Court Justice Barbara Pariente

On April 23rd at Atlantis Country Club, LWVPBC, in conjunction with the National Council of Jewish Women, the ACLU and the Women’s Foundation of Florida, held a very special event.  Florida Supreme Court Justice Barbara Pariente spoke to a crowd of about 125 people, including many judges, members of the bar, and elected officials, about the “Current and Future Challenges facing Florida’s Judiciary.”

After four decades in the legal profession and on the bench, Justice Pariente was very well placed to give us this overview.  The Justice’s engaging address highlighted the importance of an independent judiciary

Lake Worth, FL – April 6, 2017

The Second Annual Government Bee originated by The Masonic High Twelve Club of Lake Worth No. 316 was conducted by the School District of Palm Beach County on Thursday, April 6, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Santaluces High School of Lantana.
