The League of Women Voters of Florida believes that the President of the United States should be elected as is every other local, state and national public official—by popular vote.  Enacting the bipartisan National Popular Vote Interstate Compact will ensure that every Floridian’s vote counts—and counts equally—in national elections.  States that enact the Compact pledge to award their Electoral votes to the candidate that wins the national popular vote.

We oppose the “winner-take-all rule” and the inequities in the Electoral College formula that make the votes of millions of Americans—and Floridians—meaningless.  We advocate for using the provisions of the U.S. Constitution that gives states exclusive control over instructing their electors and that encourages states to enter into interstate compacts. Electing the president by popular vote has received support …

Let the People Vote

Let the People Vote

The winners of Tuesday’s elections – Republican or Democrat, for governor, mayor or dogcatcher – all have one thing in common: They received more votes than their opponent. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact Committee is actively looking for dedicated volunteers. Help us effect a statewide legislative campaign for passage of this important legislation being introduced in the  legislative session.

National Popular Vote

National Popular VoteBy Nancy Cohen

The Electoral College system is a disincentive to voting:

people believe their vote for President doesn’t count.

And for good reason.

Your Florida vote is only worth 1/3 of a vote in a less populous state.

Winner Take All practices give tiny majorities all the Electoral Votes.

Is there a solution?

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) would make all votes count equally.  And it would encourage Presidential candidates to listen to all points of view.
