Voter Registrations Coincide With ACA Enrollment Events

The Voter Services committee will be piggybacking Voter Registration drives with ACA Enrollment events at local libraries from now through December 13th. The schedule is as follows:

11/29 – Okeechobee Branch – 4:30 – 7:30 -pm
12/2 – Okeechobee Branch – 11 am – 3 pm
12/4 – Tequesta Branch – 3:45 – 5:30 pm
12/6 – Okeechobee Branch – 4:30 – 7:30 pm
12/8 – Glades Branch – Boca Raton – 12 – 4 pm
12/10 – Wellington Branch – 12 – 4 pm
12/11 – Tequesta Branch – 3:45 – 5:30 pm

In our continuing commitment to offer convenient ways to access information on important issues, the LWVPBC is cosponsoring a series of meetings with the municipalities in Palm Beach County. These meetings will be free of charge and open to members and the public. They will offer a variety of subjects such as:

WHAT IS LEADERSHIP PALM BEACH COUNTY?

Chamber of Commerce of the Palm BeachesLeadership Engage is a comprehensive study of Palm Beach County’s leading industries and most pressing issues. Participants meet for one full day each month for nine months and complete a Civic Engagement project. Each year, a new class is chosen to participate in this program. Admission to the program is very competitive. This year, Debra Chandler, LWVPBC 1st Vice President, is a proud class member. Look for her monthly updates in future issues of NEWS.

I am Karen Wilkerson, President of the League of Women Voters of Palm Beach County.  We want to thank the delegation for holding this series of hearings to hear from the public.

As we look to the January 2018 session of the Florida Legislature, we have several points of issue:

 

1)     Charter schools that do not meet the statute definition of offering either innovative teaching or the unmet needs of the traditional public schools should not be granted permits by local school boards

2)     The open carrying of arms should not be permitted on campuses or on public areas.

3)     Redistricting standards as validated by the state Supreme Court should be maintained and
