Government Bee Report

By Christene Campbell-Gabor, Civics Education Chair

LWVPBC was a proud sponsor of the Palm Beach County School District’s Second Annual Government Bee, held at Santaluces High School on April 16th.

Seven PBC high schools participated in this year’s Bee, which was originated by the Masonic High Twelve Club of Lake Worth No. 316. The seven schools (Boynton Beach High School, Lake Worth Community High School, Royal Palm Beach High School, Santaluces Community High School, Seminole Ridge Community High School, Spanish River High School, and Suncoast High School) mounted ten teams, double the number of teams that competed in the first annual competition held last year.

This competition encourages teams of students to become engaged in the United States Government curriculum by going head-to-head with questions of varying complexity and lock-out buzzer systems.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the day a big success and a special thank you to Lori Dool, Social Studies Program Planner Palm Beach Schools, for inviting us to be a part of this annual event.

Awards were provided to the three winning teams by The Masonic High Twelve Club of Lake Worth No. 316, The Florida Government Finance Officers Association, The League of Women Voters, and The National Council of Jewish Women.
