On Tuesday, October 3rd, the Palm Beach County League presented its annual Legislative Preview at the Palm Beach Post featuring a panel of  Florida Legislators. Panelists included:

  • Senator Jeff Clemens (District 31)
  • Representative Bobby Powell (District 88)
  • Representative Joseph Abruzzo (District 81)
  • Representative Lori Berman (District 90)
  • Representative Emily Slosberg (District 91)
  • Representative Matt Willhite (District 86)

 

LWVPBC member Ken Thomas expertly moderated the panel.

The two-hour preview covered a discussion of legislative priorities, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC), privatization of public schools, ACLU lawsuit challenging the Florida Abortion Law, medical marijuana, the Sadowski Affordable Housing Act, and the Florida Water and Land Conservation Act.

Legislative priorities included gun safety,  felon voting rights restoration, mental illness, texting while driving, nursing home hurricane improvements, climate change, equal pay, and raising the legal age of tobacco use.

In their closing statements, the panelists stated that they value the opinions of League members and urged members to be engaged in the legislative process.
